Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Life at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Oak tree farm rural project

We ventured out into the local community on our mini bus to visit a local project which provides occupations for adults with learning disabilities. Our residents enjoyed the beautiful rural setting and the tea rooms were a delight with china tea ware and delicious homemade cakes. We also had the opportunity to browse some of the projects makes that they had for sale within the project.

Biddulph male voice choir

Keeping community connections is an important part of our life enrichment here at Hilderstone Hall. One of our residents had previously been a member of the Biddulph male voice choir before joining us, performing for many people within the local community and surrounding areas. Biddulph male voice choir joined us here for the afternoon and performed for us all it was delightful to see our resident re-join his group.

Hilderstone Hatchery

As spring arrived we decided to hatch our own chickens. The residents of Hilderstone hall learnt all about chicken husbandry and all also the care required to hatch and incubate the eggs. Within the days that followed an incubator a brooder and a box of ten eggs were delivered for us to use. This project went down a treat with the residents and gave them a sense of responsibility. The delight and excitement was lovely to see on the residents faces when 7 little chicks appeared.

The potteries museum and art gallery

This month we travelled on our mini bus to the potteries museum an art gallery to look at the heritage of the potteries. The pot bank industry was a large part of many people’s lives here in Staffordshire. Many of our residents have an art background and therefore were keen to see the works of this area. Some of our residents have joined us from far and wide and loved seeing the historic Stafford hoard. The potteries museum is also a firm favourite as the spitfire also has its own display here many of our residents reminisced about its use.

Mad hatters tea Party

Books have played an important role within many of our resident lives for work or for hobbies. To celebrate world book day we hosted a mad hatter’s tea party. Each resident was sat around a themed table and enjoyed different varieties of themed cakes. Staff and residents wore costumes relating to the theme. A splendid afternoon was had by all.

Ten pin bowling

Our resident’s here at Hilderstone Hall have enjoyed a visit to ten pin bowling this month. Each week within the home we have been playing skittles in main lounge which has become a firm favourite within activities. With this in mind we hoped on the mini bus and went to the actual bowling alley the residents loved the experience and engaging within the community. Whilst there we took turns on playing on the arcade machines which brought back many memories of seaside holidays.
