Memory Lane Champion

Angela Gardner, who has worked at Castle Keep Care Home for 20 years, was thrilled to be named ‘Memory Lane Champion 2016’ for the fantastic care she gives to people living with dementia in the home’s Memory Lane Community.

The judges said: ‘Angela views herself as someone completely unremarkable but the opposite is true! She goes above and beyond in her role and will go into the home on her days off to make sure residents have an extra special time.’

Castle Keep had already won two awards in the first heats of the Barchester Care Awards. In addition to Angela, who won both a regional and national award, carer Shaun Hales won ‘Carer/Support Worker of the Year’ in the regional heats.

Diane Martin, General Manager at Castle Keep said: “We are all so proud of Angela and Shaun, who both work really hard and truly deserve these awards. Both of them attended the awards ceremony in Manchester and for Angela to win the national trophy for ‘Memory Lane Champion’ was the icing on the cake! When we found out it was a really emotional moment – she is committed, compassionate and an advocate for the people she cares for.”

On receiving the top award, Angela said: I am overwhelmed and thrilled to have won the award, not just for me but for all the team at Castle Keep.”
