Joy Whitlock
Hospitality Champion

Joy Whitlock, Head Chef at Harton Grange Care Home in South Shields has been awarded ‘Hospitality Champion of the Year’ at the Barchester Care Awards 2016.

This award recognises those who work tirelessly in hospitality roles within Barchester care homes, including the chefs, who serve great tasting food that meets the nutritional needs of everyone living at the home.

Joy was up against five others in the category from other Barchester homes and was chosen by the judges to win the national Award because of her consistent high standards and all the extra things she does to support the people she cares for, such as using her own money to make people gift hampers and taking part in social activities at the home.

On receiving the award, Joy said: “I’m ecstatic about winning – I’m still buzzing. Everyone at Harton Grange has been celebrating and residents’ families have been coming up to me and congratulating me too. I love my job anyway but this award is the icing on the cake!”
