A new band called The Zimmers are hoping to have a hit single with their cover of The Who's song My Generation.
All of the band members, of which there are 40, are aged over 60. They came together to record their song was recorded at Abbey Road studios in London.
The group also featured in a documentary about the making of their track which was shown on BBC2 this week. It highlighted the social issues and isolation experienced by many older people.
The programme also attempted to challenge misconceptions about the elderly.
Gordon Lishman, director of Age Concern, said: "The fantastic energy of the band members shows that age is cause for celebration not commiseration.
"For many older people, later life is not a time for pipe and slippers but for enjoying all sorts of pursuits that they may not have been able to take up in their youth."
The money the band raises from the song will go to help the work of Age Concern.
The success of the track will be revealed this Sunday evening.
