Woman to walk 500 miles for Alzheimer's Research UK

A woman from York is set to hike 500 miles across northern Spain in order to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Jane Patchett, 60, will set off on May 9th and hopes to complete the Camino trail within five weeks. She is dedicating the task to the memories of her month, father and mother-in-law, all of whom died with dementia.

Carl Sheard, Ms Patchett's brother, will be joining her on the journey.

"Carl and I hope the walk will give us give us the opportunity to come to terms with our loss and reflect on the happy times we shared with our parents before they became unwell. It will be fantastic walking with a positive focus to raise much needed money for Alzheimer’s Research UK," she said.

Parminder Summon, community fundraising manager for the charity said that every £20 the walk raises will fund one hour of vital research and bring it closer to finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
