Werrington Lodge rewarded for investing in staff

6th March 2007

Barchester's Werrington Lodge has been recognised for its outstanding staff development programme with a prestigious award.

The Peterborough care home was given the Investors in People (IIP) Award following a rigorous assessment procedure which included interviews with staff and an examination of individual training records.

The focus was on whether staff feel valued and listened to and to gage the level of support offered and the type of management in the workplace.

Werrington Lodge originally achieved the award in 2003 and, according to general manager Shelagh Simpson, "it's more difficult to pass the reassessment than it is to gain the award in the first instance".

She added: "Getting this award is recognition that yes we are doing well and are doing right.

"I know that I value my staff and do put a lot of time and money into them, but having someone else recognise it is really something."

IIP is a business organisation which puts people at the centre of their development strategy.
