A project inspired by the Year of the Volunteer campaign has given an old Age Concern day centre a new lease of life.
Staff from the Mid Sussex District Council gave up their time to help paint the building in East Grinstead and make it more attractive for the community.
The Swan Mead day centre is a busy and popular place for the older residents in the town and has over 300 members who attend the centre for hot lunches, hairdressing and events.
The centre also offers day care for those with Alzheimer's to give carers a break, a valuable opportunity for the regular carers of the community.
"Age Concern provides marvellous services for the district's older residents," commented councillor Andrew MacNaughton.
"They deserve support and I am delighted that staff volunteered to undertake the refurbishment of the East Grinstead Day Centre."
Both Age Concern officials and day centre members agreed that the makeover was a success.
