Thousands of NHS staff 'wouldn't recommend their hospital'

A quarter of NHS staff would not be happy for their family and friends to be treated at the hospitals in which they work.

That is the shocking revelation resulting from a survey of healthcare professionals and comes just as the sector awaits the publication of the Francis Report into the failings of the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Trust.

Croydon in South London is the trust that causes the most concern among workers, with as little as 30 per cent of staff saying they would recommend the hospital.

On Wednesday (February 6th), the Francis Report will call on the NHS to make major changes as a result of the UK's worst-ever hospital scandal.

Between 2005 and 2008, as many as 1,200 people died at Stafford Hospital as a result of poor care.

Mike Farrar, head of the NHS Confederation, said: "This Wednesday will be one of the darkest days for the NHS but we must turn it into an opportunity to build a better NHS for patients."
