TGI Fridays chief joins Barchester Healthcare

14th December 2006

Barchester Healthcare, the number one provider of high quality nursing and residential home care in the UK, has appointed Tim Hammond, currently Managing Director of TGI Fridays, the family restaurant business, as Managing Director.

Mike Parsons, current Managing Director, has been promoted to the newly created role of Group Chief Executive at Grove, parent company of Barchester.

Tim joined Whitbread, parent of TGI Fridays, in 2001 as Corporate Development Director, charged with seeking new business growth opportunities including international expansion for David Lloyd Leisure, Premier Travel Inn and Costa. He was appointed Managing Director of TGI Fridays in 2004 and has returned the brand to strong volume growth on the back of all-time high customer satisfaction.

Prior to that Tim worked for Unilever, where he spent 16 years in a variety of roles including Chairman of Lever Egypt in Cairo. He has also spent three years at McKinsey & Co.

Mike Parsons said: "Tim brings a relentless focus on the consumer experience which is entirely consistent with the quality care that we provide for our residents. People should get a great experience throughout their lives.

"We have exciting plans for Barchester including developing the business in Ireland and other territories. We expect to make an announcement on our Irish plans later this month."

Tim Hammond said: "I am excited to be joining Barchester with its total commitment to looking after residents. I share the Barchester vision of quality care, and I am determined that we will continue to improve the experience of Barchester residents."

Tim will report to Mike Parsons as Group Chief Executive of Grove, which owns a number of other care businesses.
