Supported housing market boosted by £300m fund

The supported housing sector in the UK is to benefit from a £300 million cash injection from the government.

Local authorities are set to be given the chance to bid for part of a £300 million pot of money which it is claimed will boost the supported housing market and allow more people grow old in their own homes.

Care and support minister Norman Lamb stated the majority of older adults want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

"Our £300 million fund will help create thousands of homes, providing people with more choice and an alternative to residential care," he said.

However, many people may still prefer to move into a care home due to the security it provides.

Mr Lamb recently announced the government wants the country to become the world's leader in dementia research and is hosting an event featuring 150 global leaders from research, charities, biotech and pharmaceuticals.
