Southerdown using picture books to remember good times

Southerdown using picture books to remember good times
28th June 2010

Oxfordshire County Council is hoping that a series of nostalgic picture books will help people living with dementia.

It is hoped that the themed books, which included photographs, paintings and drawings accompanied by phrases, will stir old memories and "happy recollections", reports the Oxford Mail.

Following a trial scheme at two care homes in the area, the scheme has been extended across the county - with Southerndown Care Home in Chipping Norton now benefiting from the happiness that the books can bring to residents.

Anney Blake, a librarian with the council's communities and learning team, told the publication: "We had some very positive feedback about how clients enjoyed the books.

"We are delighted that the pilot has been such a success and that people have got so much out of using the Picture to Share books."

Southerndown Care Home provides expert 24-hour care for people living with dementia in its specialist Memory Lane Community.
