Shrove Tuesday celebrated with pancake tossing race

8th March 2007

Chorleywood Beaumont marked Shrove Tuesday this year with a pancake race run by members of staff.

Residents ran a sweepstake to select the staff they wanted to run the race. More than 12 contestants took part.

Bad weather meant that the race took place in the car park, but it didn't dampen the spirits of contestants or supporters.

A gap in the rain saw the staff racing around the car park race track, each tossing a pancake in a frying pan as they went.

The contestants had many supporters and plenty of pancakes were dropped as the runners attempted to complete the course, which residents found very entertaining.

The ladies winner was Guan from the care team. The men's winner was Derek, a member of the kitchen staff. After his success, Derek admitted to secretly training for the event by tossing salads. His training obviously paid off, and both winners received prizes.

Great fun was had by both runners and supporters, and residents are looking forward to making the most of Chorleywood Beaumont's outdoor space as spring arrives.
