Sherwood's murals raise money for Alzheimer's

Staff, residents and relations gathered at Sherwood Court care home in Preston to celebrate the new murals painted at the home.

The annuals Strawberry Tea event was attended by guest of honour Sit Tom Finney, who signed one of the murals which pictures him in his famous football action pose.

They were painted by local artist Adrian Powell in one of the corridors of the Memory Lane suite, a specialist unit catering for dementia sufferers. The unit has been operating for a year and provides person-centred care.

The tea party raised £400 which will go towards Alzheimer's research, to work towards improved methods of treatment and prevention.

Hilary Scott, the home manager, said: "I am really pleased with the three murals that Adrian painted. They provide talking points for residents, relatives and staff and really make the corridors look more homely.

"I was very pleased that Sir Tom came and signed his mural and helped make the afternoon such a success."
