Older people 'have little access to best energy deals'

Older people 'have little access to best energy deals'

The elderly are the demographic most vulnerable to the large hikes in energy prices, according to a national charity.

Counsel and Care, which specialises in the support of older people, families and carers, said that the elderly generation with fixed incomes was struggling with bills.

A spokeswoman added that information was also not readily available to them as many of the price comparison providers were not accessible.

She continued: "More advice and information must be readily available for all older people in a range of formats, not just through comparison websites."

The spokeswoman also highlighted that Counsel and Care is providing energy-saving tips to older individuals in order to help them reduce their energy bills to more manageable levels and outline the government schemes available to them to help with energy costs through the winter.

Age Concern recently also added that the lack of internet proliferation among older people meant that many of the best deals were not there to buy into.
