New online dementia resource launched

A new online resource to provide support and information to dementia patients and their carers has been launched by Jeremy Hunt.

The health secretary unveiled livewelldementia.co.uk at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust yesterday (March 7th).

As part of the site, a pioneering time capsule feature will allow patients with dementia to record their memories, photographs and life stories to be stored privately, or shared publicly should they so wish.

Capsool - the company behind the technology - hopes this feature will provide carers with a better appreciation of the person's likes, interests and requirements.

Anna Gaughan, chief executive of the Life Story Network, said: "Excellent care requires knowing the person being cared for not just recognising and dealing with their dementia."

The portal has been supported by the Department of Health and is expected to help increase diagnosis rates by raising awareness of the condition and providing expert information.
