New MS centre receives marathon man's funding

5th April 2006

A man running in this year's London Marathon is helping to raise money for a new centre for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) sufferers in Derby.

Iain McLurcan, 43, is aiming to provide over £4,000 for the Derby MS society, which is set to move in to a new home in May, according to Derbyshire's Evening Telegraph.

Mr McLurcan, whose sister suffers from MS, told the newspaper: "There is a large MS community in Derby, but they have never had a permanent base and have had use various venues.

"The funds I'm raising will go part of the way to helping fit out the new building with some of the fixtures and fittings needed."

Despite Mr McLurcan's efforts, the society's secretary, Paul Gates, told the publication that the centre still required necessities such as tables, chairs, automatic door openers and a shower.

"We are wishing Iain all the best in and want to thank him for his tremendous help," Mr Gates added.
