New care facility meets demand for dementia care in Carlisle

New care facility meets demand for dementia care in Carlisle
25th November 2009

Barchester Healthcare's Lanercost House celebrated the opening its newest care facility, The Carlyle Suite.

The Carlyle Suite, just outside of Carlisle city centre, will be home to just 15 people and will cater for those experiencing a dementia; in recognition of a growing demand for a high quality dementia care in the local area.

The opening was officiated by Dr Chris Hallewell, Medical Director of the Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust. Chris is a consultant psychiatrist for older people and has a long standing interest in making services more patient-centered.

Chris Hallewell said: "I am delighted to be here to officially open The Carlyle Suite today. I have had the opportunity to meet the General Manager, members of staff and those who are already living here and it is great to see somewhere where the residents' feelings are at the centre of everything the staff do. Everything is focused on the abilities of the residents and this results in a very happy home. We are lucky to have such a service in Cumbria and I look forward to our trust working with Barchester to ensure quality is maintained for residents and their families."

General Manager Alison Farran said: "We are delighted to be able to open this new facility. We hope that it will prove very welcome to the local community and boost dementia care services in the area. We’re looking forward to providing the best quality care for people with dementia."

Tim Hammond, Managing Director of Barchester Healthcare said: "“We have already welcomed the first of our new residents to our home in Carlisle. There’s a lot of interest in this new home and the superb quality of care that we offer here."
