Sleep is a vital element of a healthy lifestyle, and helps the body recovery from the stresses of the day.
However, increasingly older adults are finding themselves unable to switch off and go to sleep.
According to Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, author of Tired but Wired, one of the main reasons people can’t sleep is because the world around is "going faster and faster".
"People are finding that there is so much they are trying to do and fit into 24 hours, and it simply leaves us with less time to get into our bed and sleep at night," she said.
What's more, people are over-stimulated and are unable to relax when it is time to go to bed.
Consequently, older adults must take steps to improve their sleeping experiences.
This could be by creating a bedtime routine, such as always reading or having a bath.
Clearing the bedroom of distracting materials is also important to ensure that you can concentrate entirely on sleeping.
