Kenwyn enjoys a festive Christmas

22nd January 2007

Kenwyn Care Home has enjoyed a particularly festive Christmas with one resident celebrating his 101st birthday plus a visit for the whole home from a donkey in a Santa outfit.

Friday 15th December saw a special attraction at the home in the form of Wayne the donkey – visiting from the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary and dressed in festive wear – to get all the residents in the Christmas mood.

Mandy Trotter, Kenywn home manager, said the day went "very well indeed" and guests gathered downstairs while they patted Wayne and walked him around the home.

She added: "Complete with Xmas outfit, Wayne initially went to the main lounge where children from Shortlanesend School were singing. He then visited every single resident in their rooms, which necessitated a journey in the lift!"

Christmas Day was not without excitement either as Reg Smith, a resident at the home, celebrated his 101st birthday in style. Father Christmas came to see him with around six helpers – one of whom, Wendy Kitchen, was also celebrating her birthday on the 25th.

Reg moved to Kenwyn from his Exeter home in September 2006 to be closer to his daughter Mandy, who is also manager of the home.

Kenwyn Care Home is also set to open a brand new bar this Friday (January 26th).
