Heathcare provider sponsors promising football team

11th August 2005

The third largest provider of care homes in the UK is sponsoring a ladies football team in Norwich.

Barchester Healthcare has thrown its support behind the Barchester United Ladies Football Club, of which many players originated from the Norwich Girls Centre of Excellence.

The team is managed and coached by Vicki Shucksmith, who is also manager at the Heath Farm House Care Home in Little Plumstead.

Ms Shucksmith said: "The financial aid received from Barchester has given us a fantastic start which means we can worry less about money, and concentrate more on getting good results on the pitch."

The team includes centre midfielder Beth Bygraves who has represented England at an international level and is on the current call up list for the national squad.

Ms Shucksmith hopes that within five years the team would have achieved enough high profile status to sign as professional footballers.

"With the backing we have from Barchester Healthcare I am sure we will continue to grow from strength to strength. The dream of the girls, myself and Barchester Healthcare, is that we will become one of the top teams in the country."
