23rd November 2009

Michael J Fox turned out at a major US Parkinson's disease event this weekend, surprising his fans by performing alongside rock stars Steven Tyler, Roger Daltrey and Elvis Costello.

New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel played host to the benefit gig, entitled A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To Cure Parkinson's, seeing a whole host of major stars turning up and Michael J Fox - a man who has lived with Parkinson's disease since 1991 - showing his famous face to represent the cause.

Hosted by Rescue Me star Denis Leary for the most part, it was Tracy Pollan - the actress and wife of Fox - who underlined how important it is to raise money in order to find a cure for Parkinson's.

Other people who turned up to the gig included Scarlett Johansson and husband Ryan Reynolds, while Martin Scorsese and Ben Stiller were also in the audience.

Michael J Fox is best known for his role as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, though also held the leading role in Spin City.
