Barchester nurse receives top award

30th November 2006

A Barchester healthcare nurse has won a prestigious prize at an awards ceremony in London.

Doina Deicu, staff nurse at West Oak Care Home in Wokingham, Berkshire, received the Care Registered Nurse Award at the 2006 Care Awards last weekend.

Ms Deicu, who won the accolade for the challenges she overcame in the care home's elderly frail unit, has been with Barchester since 2003, following training in her native Romania.

Having joined the care home as a senior carer, she progressed to her current role following the successful completion of an adaptation course and received Barchester's in house trained nurse of the year award earlier this year.

The home's general manager, Veronica Gormley, who nominated Ms Deicu for the award, commented: "Doina has exceeded in all the challenges that have faced her.

"Her gentleness and caring nature has been inspirational and has attracted much respect from her colleagues."

It is the second consecutive year that a Barchester Healthcare employee has received the accolade.
