6th October 2008

Barchester Care Home Group has donated specialist medical equipment to a hospital in Ghana, it has emerged.

On taking over the former Orchard Hospital building in Newport, Barchester donated all of the site's medical equipment to the 28-bed Mary Lucy Hospital, reports Isle of Wight Country Press.

The supplies - which include theatre packs, surgical instruments and maternity unit bed cots - will be loaded on to a cargo container by Barchester staff, ready for shipping to the west African country.

According to the news provider, the medical equipment is scheduled to arrive in Ghana within the next month.

Barchester's Orchard House Care Home is situated on the outskirts of Newport, in its own secluded garden which backs on to fields.

The care home aims to offer particularly high levels of care right across the board - paying careful attention to areas such as cooking, hospitality, housekeeping and activities for residents.

"Our team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of our residents with a person-centred care plan for everyone," the home states.
