Ashlar House staff complete dementia care training

16th February 2007

Ten members of staff from an Epping care home have been awarded certificates for passing a course in dementia care.

Staff from Barchester's Ashlar House completed the training on the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (YTT) course which is endorsed by the Alzheimer's Society and aims to enhance understanding of dementia.

"The course aims to provide better care for those with dementia by giving staff a better understanding of their condition," said the home's manager, Emma Bryer.

"They really enjoyed it and felt they got a greater insight into dementia and could deal with challenging situations better."

She added that Ashlar House was moving towards running a five star dining course.

The hospitality initiative ensures dining rooms have a warm and welcoming atmosphere, complete with fully laid tables with flowers and menus displayed, as well as serving appetising meals and giving choice to residents.
