100th birthday celebrations at Lochduhar

23rd April 2007

Lizzie Cranston recently celebrated her 100th birthday at Lochduhar Care Home in Dumfries, where she has been a resident since June 2006.

She indulged in her favourite drink, a cup of tea, with her daughter Mary and son-in-law who came to visit from Canada, along with friends, residents and staff.

She was also presented with a telegram from the queen by Lady Lieutenant Eileen Duncan.

Lizzie was born in Callendar where she grew up. She then went to Cumbernauld to work as a chambermaid.

Later she moved to Edinburgh where she met her husband, Arthur. After he died she worked as a cleaner at the local school until she retired.

She now has two grandchildren, a girl and a boy, who live in Canada.

Lizzie enjoys various activities at Lochduhar Care Home including singing, reciting nursery rhymes and chatting with friends, she told a local paper.
