Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Life at Woodland View Care Home

In the Line of Fire

In the Line of Fire

Residents at Woodland View Care Home were treated to a trip to the Dovercourt Fire Station, near Harwich. The crew there gave an extensive explanation of many of the features of one of their fire engines and the station itself.

Residents really enjoyed the tour and had the chance to ask lots of questions over a nice cup of tea and a plate of chocolate biscuits afterwards.

Another interesting thing residents learned about Dovercourt Fire Station, is that is one of the only stations in the area equipped with an inflatable boat to deal with inland flooding and river rescues.

One of the residents who took the trip, Mo Hobbs, is one of three residents at Woodland View to have attended and passed the in-house care home fire training.

Residents Witness a Grilling!

Residents Witness a Grilling!

No, it's not another Spanish Inquisition; it's the Woodland View BBQ, which was held on Saturday 13th August.

Staff, residents and relatives enjoyed great weather, great food and a great atmosphere. Compliments were received by the team for providing an excellent event that was enjoyed by all.

Music Accordion to Derek

Music Accordion to Derek

Woodland View residents were treated to even more live entertainment recently.

Accordion player, Derek Driver, stormed his way through a long list of wartime favourites to the delight of his audience. Every single member of the audience was singing along, and the hour-long set that was delivered by Derek continued with a 30 minute encore.

Residents at Woodland View have already asked for a return visit from Derek, who has delightfully accepted. A Christmas performance is also extremely likely!

The Olympic Spirit

The Olympic Spirit

In true Woodland View-style, residents got the chance to try out a new game, which is a mix of skittles, football and tennis - we call it Foottlennis!

We had a couple of oversized - really oversized - tennis balls from the Wimbledon season and a skittles set; skittles and table tennis have always been popular here. We wanted to include as many of the less-abled residents as we could, so we made sure that there were certain alterations that allowed anyone and everyone to play along.

When the idea came to mind, we thought it would be good fun, but instead... it was hysterical! The whole room was pretty much reduced to tears of laughter as contenders threw, bowled, kicked or hand-batted the ball towards the skittles.

Could this idea be copyrighted? We'd make a fortune!

Hearts Delight

Hearts Delight

Residents enjoyed an afternoon visiting a garden centre that is not far from the home to indulge in afternoon tea, which was a lovely treat and meant that we could take a drive in our minibus.

With over 28 garden centres to choose from, we picked Hearts Delight in Manningtree. The outings will continue until we have visited all of them.

Many plants were purchased and then displayed on the residents’ patio area and al fresco terraces.

Only 27 more to go!

Appealing Crop!

Appealing Crop!

Resident, Sylvia, proudly shows off some of the potatoes harvested from the first crop produced at Woodland View.

Despite the recent hot weather, keen gardener, Sylvia, assisted by Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, dug up the potatoes. They were handed over to the Chef, ready for cooking in the home's kitchen.

Some of the potatoes will be replanted, producing additional crops in the coming months.
