Activities at Wimbledon Beaumont Care Community

Our team of activities staff and volunteers are constantly striving to improve the lives of our residents. This includes the quality of our regular entertainers, the new PAT dog and cat visits, the new singing entertainment in residents bedrooms and the personalised visits by volunteers. We also encourage relatives and friends to join in with activities and trips out whenever they can.

As the festive season begins, the team at Wimbledon Beaumont would like to encourage you to join them to take part in our varied activities and regular trips out.

Chef of the Year

Melvyn Knights, Head Chef at Wimbledon Beaumont, was recently crowned the national winner in the Chef of the Year category at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd October.

Pete, a judge for the category, said of Melvyn that “his thoughtful meals and clever menus demonstrate not only his passion for cooking, but his determination to provide nutritious and tasty dishes for the residents he cooks for. Understanding all elements in the experience of eating at a care home, from brightly coloured dishes, wonderful smells to seasonal ingredients, as well as giving plentiful choice to those at the home, some who require modified dishes to make them easier to eat, or those who have been poorly and require a diet rich in vitamins, calcium and healthy fats, Melvyn provides all of that and so much more. Worries about food when moving into a care home are one of the top questions we get during visits to the homes, and Melvyn does a brilliant job putting both residents and their relatives’ minds at ease, and creating dishes for all to enjoy.”

Melvyn said of his win that, “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at Barchester with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”

CQC Celebration

We are extremely pleased to announce that following a recent inspection from CQC we have been awarded a “Good” overall rating.  This shows us to be a safe, caring, effective, responsive and well led home. We are immensely proud of this rating and strive to continue to offer the highest quality care service that we are providing to all our residents.

We received our banner showing our “Good” rating, which is now proudly displayed outside Wimbledon Beaumont Care Community.  We all worked incredibly hard as a team to achieve this rating and could not be happier.

We also received a lovely surprise of a very generous supply of donuts from head office to congratulate us, which we all enjoyed.

Jazz Afternoon

Jazz Afternoon

On Wednesday 4th September, we had a wonderful afternoon of jazz. Residents, families and friends all came along for afternoon tea and enjoyed Sophie Burrows singing and playing her saxophone. A fun afternoon was had by all!

NCS Tea Party with Residents

NCS Tea Party with Residents

NCS is a government-backed programme which brings young people aged 15 – 17 from different backgrounds together for a common purpose. The initiative inspires new friendships across differences. The Challenge is now a leading provider of NCS, working with our partners and seasonal staff to deliver the programme to tens of thousands of young people every year.

This August Wimbledon Beaumont welcomed 15 young people who visited on two separate occasions, first to plan and then deliver afternoon tea party for the residents.

During the first visit, the young people met with residents and leant about their lives. As the weather was very nice it was deiced to hold the party in the garden and all residents enjoyed nice cup of tea and lovely cakes prepared by NCS team.

It was an enjoyable experience and we certainly will welcome NCS back to Wimbledon Beaumont again!
