Activities at Vecta House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

St Patrick's Day

St Patricks Day was celebrated at Vecta House amongst residents, family members, friends and staff with a day full of various events.

To kick the Shenanigans off residents who are nursed in bed enjoyed engaging through one to one book club reading of the history of St Patrick.

For lunch everyone gathered in the dining areas for a traditional Scottish menu washed down with a tipple of Irish Whiskey.

The day’s events continued through the afternoon as the home was decorated with Irish themed decorations ready to welcome Shamrock and Thistles Irish dance group. The home was electric with excitement as family members joined their loved ones for a fun filled afternoon. Everyone enjoyed an outstanding show performed by the Irish dance group singing and clapping along throughout. After the show everyone enjoyed a slice of cake washed down with a pint of Guinness and spoke about the afternoon events. But that wasn’t the end of our celebrations! We continued to party the afternoon away as we were joined by Verity Bird who sang a selection of Irish inspired songs while playing her Ukulele. Everyone had a wonderful time creating beautiful memories.

Flower Arranging

At Vecta house we have a variety of activities running 7 days a week, some of the activities are classes that are on offer for residents to attend on a regular basis. This week the residents enjoyed the ever so popular Flower arranging class. This class is a great way for residents to socialize chatting about their  favourite colours and favourite flowers throughout creating beautiful displays. Staff for all departments like to join residents in engaging and we are proud of this whole home approach. Each week residents create fresh flower displays to be placed in the dining rooms helping to create an even more pleasant environment for their dining experience.

International women’s day

International women’s day is a global celebration. It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements without regard to division, ethnic, cultural, economic or political.

To Celebrate this day residents were indulged with a day of pampering whether it be a hand massage, getting their nails painted or hair done.

The homes salon was immersed by calming lighting and candles with aromatherapy oils setting off a sensational aroma creating a relaxing atmosphere.

In the afternoon residents reminisced about the inspirational women in their lives and what they themselves had achieved in life.

Staff were shown how inspirational and strong they are in providing outstanding care for all our residents with a sweet treat and flowers.

Mother’s Day

On Mother’s day residents of Vecta House enjoyed an afternoon tea with Judy Garland performed by the very talented Hanna Nixon. The dining area was decorated ready for the afternoons event with balloons and garlands and of course the fine chine laid on the tables ready for afternoon tea.

Residents were joined by their loved ones to celebrate this special day and to take time to remember all the inspirational women in their lives.

With delicious cakes and scones made by the amazing kitchen team everyone could indulge in the scrumptious selection washed down with a hot beverage.

The singing got start and everyone joined in singing along to the very well-known Judy Garland classic hits.

There was lots of laughter and joy from everyone with a show stopping ending with all guests singing along to one of the most favourite and well know song over the rainbow.

Book Club

Residents were over the moon to invite back the local primary school for the ever so popular book club. Book club started last year with Vecta House and Summerfield’s primary school joining together for a number of projects. Book club became very popular between both students and residents and has grown over time. The children always enjoy engaging with residents and so do the residents creating beautiful friendships. One young boy spent time reading a book about space with one resident who was a scientist by profession so this lead to an interesting conversation between the two. Another student brought a book about Australia and was discussing the topic with a resident whose son lives in Australia and she spoke of her experiences when she had visited the country. We look forward to welcoming back the students in the near future for more interesting book clubs.

Burns' Night Celebrations

Residents, staff and families joined together for a day of Scottish celebration.

The day brought the beautiful sound of bagpipes played by John Brodie the Highland bagpiper. The traditional Scottish tunes echoed through the halls creating touching emotions for all that herd.

From one Scottish tradition to the next we all gathered in the dining rooms decorated to a Scottish theme for a scrumptious lunch of haggis, neaps and tatties followed by Dundee cake for dessert. We then all gathered in the lounge for a relaxing afternoon with a glass of Scotch Whisky.
