Hi, my name is Yvonne, and I am the General Manager here at Thackeray House. Welcome to our website!
I have been a Registered Manager for over 10 years, working predominantly with older people in both nursing and residential care.
Working in this industry is very rewarding, as it allows me the opportunity to meet a generation that l otherwise wouldn’t have met, and the privilege to hear their life stories.
I also share my story of being a wife and mother of three gorgeous boys and often have anecdotes of being the only female in a house full of boys!
I enjoy what l do and I like for the people l work with to look forward to coming to work, and for the residents to receive high quality care from people that are passionate about what they do.
My name is Vali Stallard and I am the deputy manager and clinical lead here at Thackeray House.
I am a trained registered nurse and have specialised in caring for the elderly since 2005. I believe strongly in treating people as I would want to be treated, and I carry that ethos through the way I manage my team and how I care for residents and support their families.
I’m passionate about providing great nursing care and believe that working in a care home environment gives you the time to deliver the very best care, as you build trusting relationships and get to know each resident and their care needs in detail. I also know that, as a team, we become a big part of residents' lives, and that their happiness is just as important as their health and well-being.
I lead my team by example, by being open and honest with my residents and their families and by coming to work happy and smiling... though maybe that’s just because I love my job!
I have worked in an administration since leaving school at age 16 and have been at Barchester since 2009, originally as a Receptionist/Admin Assistant at Westwood House, and from there to the Administrator at Thackeray House on.
I began working for Barchester in 2015 as a Carer at Orchard House in Newport. It was a very exciting and enjoyable experience.
In September 2016, I moved to Bromley and learned that there was an activities vacancy at Thackeray House in Croydon, so I requested to be transferred to this home. I began my new job in January 2017 and love working here and making a difference to residents' lives.

I joined the team at Thackeray House in late 2017. I started working as a care assistant, mainly aiding in activities, and in February 2019, I was promoted to admin assistant, which is a job role that I very much enjoy.
I am from New Zealand and worked there as a nurse for several years before moving to the UK. I thoroughly enjoy my role as a nurse and love working at Thackeray House.
I have worked as registered nurse for several years now, and I enjoy working with the residents and staff here at Thackeray House.
I was born in England, but went to Zambia as a child and returned to England in 1988, when I started training to be Chef at Lewisham College and I worked at the student union as a catering assistant while studying.
I initially started working with Barchester Healthcare at a home in Wimbledon as a 2nd Chef and moved to Thackeray House 4 years ago, having been promoted to Head Chef.
I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Halal, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.
Thackeray House, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.
I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.
I enjoy working at Thackeray House, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required.
I joined Thackeray House in June 2018, before that I was at Reigate Beaumont, which is another Barchester home. I am responsible for keeping the residents and staff in a safe environment. That includes the upkeep of our building and all its facilities. I enjoying meeting the residents and helping them settle in and making their stay as comfortable as possible.
Angela has worked at Thackeray House for 2 decades, bringing her skills to the kitchen assisting the head chef.
Sandra joined the team in January 2018 and has wealth of experience from working in hospitals and hotels.
My name is Carlene and l am a senior carer here at Thackeray House. I started off as a night care assistant, which l enjoyed doing, but moved to working days in order to experience all aspects of care. I am dedicated to my job, and l am also the Infection Control Champion for the home.
