Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

It's a Kind of Magic

It's a Kind of Magic

Residents laughed their way through the afternoon watching Nick’s Magic & Laughter show. It really was what it said on the tin: a funny afternoon, and we had our very own glamorous assistants in the audience to help him with his tricks.

Memory Walk

Memory Walk

On 30th September 2018, staff, relatives and a residents took part in the Memory Walk held at King’s Meadow in Reading.

The walk was over 2km, and was in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. St Thomas signed up before the event and also set up a fundraising page. This saw St Thomas raise an amazing £871 for the charity.

The event was arranged at St Thomas by our Activities Coordinator, Lindsey Graham, who enlisted the support of other staff members, residents and relatives. Lindsey drove the minibus to Reading with ‘Team St Thomas’ on board.

The weather was kind and all involved came back saying what a great day it had been.

St Thomas’s Fete

Residents, relatives, friends, staff and the local community joined together to have a wonderful afternoon at St Thomas’s Fete, which was held on 21st July.

Donations from local businesses took pride of place on the raffle stall, and there was entertainment from Betsy, who took us back through the eras.

Residents enjoyed the BBQ with wonderful home-cooked food from our catering team, as well as cream teas and scones.

There was also hook-a-duck, sponge stocks, glitter tattoos, bric-a-brac, a cupcake stall, coloured sand creations and the very popular car wash.

Gentle Exercise

Gentle Exercise

We were joined by Richard from Gfitness, who hosted a gentle exercise session for residents. Iris said she was concentrating really hard and felt the burn!
