Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Easter Cake Competition

Residents at Sherwood Lodge have seen the poster and heard about the cake competition. They have all expressed an interest to take part, we have held a meeting to discuss ideas and how to make the cake.

Residents said they would like to make a big egg, with a smaller egg inside, with chicks in and grass around it.

We have been out to the shops to get all the ingredients, Margaret said she would like it to be very colourful, and Pauline said she can’t wait to make the chicks.

Day 1 of the build:
Make 3 sponges wait to cool and stack together with butter cream than cut to shape, make the jelly.

Day 2:
Decorate the egg with butter cream and make chicks had the jelly.

Hard work has played off with a lot of fun, residents said they are so pleased with the outcome and can’t wait for the results.

A Rainbow of Hands

Rainbows are a universal symbol of love, hope, happiness and acceptance.

Our residents and staff have got crafty and we have made rainbow of our own. Not just a rainbow, but a rainbow of all our hands together.

Helping hands, caring hands, friendship hands, loving hands, holding each other's hands

Each hand has the residents and staff's name on it, showing our unity together as a home.

We have displayed our Sherwood Lodge family rainbow of hands on our entrance and our lovely Doris could not wait to have her picture taken next to it to share with you all.

Pet Therapy

The pitter patter of tiny paws and the wag of a tail never fails to bring happiness and joy to our home and our residents

We had another pet therapy session yesterday from the lovely and very adorable Yorkshire terrier Leo.

Leo has become a bit of a star at our home. His owner Martin brings him to see our residents every month for lots of cuddles and our residents really love his visits.

Residents love feeding Leo his favourite snacks. He is quite the diva as his favourite snack is carrot battens.

Lovely conversations were had about residents past family pets.

Comic Relief

Today at Sherwood Lodge we have been raising money for Comic Relief Day.

Comic Relief was launched in 1985 and is celebrating its 39th year.

At Sherwood Lodge we like to be different so today we had a pie stall, with a twist. Instead of pies you can buy and eat we had ...... cream pies.

And the reason for this ? To pie Senior staff and the Manager

Staff made cash contributions for residents and themselves to buy a cream pie ....and they all snapped up the chance to take part surprisingly

Senior carer Claire and General Manger Tracy were nominated to be put in the stocks to take on the challenge.

It was great fun and we were happy and very grateful to raise over £55 for a special cause.

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

Residents at Sherwood Lodge celebrated St Patrick's day, The home was decorated with shamrocks made by the residents in a arts and crafts group making bunting for all around the home ,listening to Irish music, and a wonderful Irish strew was put on by the chef.

St Patrick's day actually observe the death of St Patrick the patron Saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Wishing the King a Speedy Recovery

When His Royal Highness, King Charles, shared with the world he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, to raise awareness, our residents wanted to send him their love and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Residents handmade a special get well soon card to send off to Buckingham Palace.

Yesterday they were absolutely delighted to receive a card of thanks from the King himself

The card was shown around the home to all our residents who were overjoyed to receive his thanks for their efforts.

His majesty said, "This brings you my warmest thanks for your incredibly thoughtful message. It was wonderfully generous of you to take the trouble to write as you did, and your kind words were most uplifting.

Residents were overwhelmed with his kind words.
