Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Inside the Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

Beat the Clock

We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Ringtons Community

For the last few years every other Friday we have our local Ringtons representative visit the home for a few of our ladies who used to get deliveries to their own home and would like to continue doing so now they reside at Scarborough Hall, even a few team members like to order their tea and biscuits for a treat. We have become good friends with the lads at Ringtons and we were absolutely delighted when they chose us to donate these beautiful paint by number gingerbread biscuit tins!

Residents have enjoyed painting these in our weekly craft clubs, the toddlers enjoyed having a go at our monthly intergenerational baby and toddler group and we even had enough left over to pay the kind gesture forward and gave some to our friends at Jitterbugs Nursery School at our quarterly meet up.

Crufts

Resident Anne absolutely loves dogs and both her son and daughters dogs visit her on a weekly basis so she was very excited to celebrate Crufts. The activity team planned for a dog agility performance to be held at the home for the residents entertainment, resident from all three floors enjoyed looking out of the lounge windows and visiting the garden for a closer look.

Each day on the week of crufts the activity team organised for ‘A Dog A Day’ to visit the home for the residents to fuss, the start of the week saw the smaller dog breeds such as Lula who is a bichon freiss, moving on through the week we had medium sized dogs such as Dyson the Springer Spaniel. Towards the end of the week we enjoyed seeing the larger dog breeds like Fred the French mastiff cross chocolate lab. Residents were able to learn about all different kinds of dogs and enjoyed giving them lots of hugs and treats.

St Patrick's Day

Each month we host our bespoke themed dining experience in our Laughton Suite Dementia Café, this month the theme was St Patrick's Day. Residents from all three floors really enjoyed getting together for a delicious Irish Guinness stew whilst reminiscing and listening to Irish pub classics.

To further our St Patrick's Day festivities we are excited to welcome local Ukulele band the Hunmanbee’s as they joined us for an afternoon or Irish classics and themed baked goods. Residents enjoyed dancing and doing crafts as our St Patrick's Day party commenced in full swing.

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
