Activities at Prestbury Beaumont Care Community

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Prestbury Beaumont Care Community

Blooming Haus

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

English National Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

Tasting with vegetarian for life

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.

Henrik the PAT dog visits Prestbury

Henrik the Italian Spinone and his owner, John Berry has visited Barchester’s Prestbury Beaumont in Prestbury to visit its residents and staff as part of the charity, Pets as Therapy, scheme.

Henrik and John joined residents of the home to meet all the residents and staff. Henrik introduced himself to residents, being rewarded with lots of attention and treats. Residents were overjoyed to meet Henrik and he brought so many smiles to the home.

General Manager at Prestbury Beaumont, Cath Ritchie said: “It was lovely to have John and Henrik here for the afternoon. The residents were delighted that he was able to visit us. We all had a wonderful day and we hope that Henrik and John will come to see us again soon!”

Bewitching tricks and spooky treats

Barchester’s Prestbury Beaumont care Community, in Prestbury, was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween weekend got in to full swing.

Residents and staff got in to the spirit of things by holding a pumpkin carving competition. They ran an in-house staff pumpkin carving competition, as well as a community pumpkin carving competition which received entries from the local Bright Horizons nursery.

General Manager, Cath Ritchie cackled: “Our staff and residents love any excuse for a competition!  The home looks fantastic with all the pumpkins and our staff did us proud with lots of spooky creations– we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

Maureen Hardy, resident at Prestbury Beaumont said: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. I really enjoyed seeing the entries from the children at the nursery, they were all so creative!’’.

Reading with Mike Gayle

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.
