Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.
Denise Ashby
Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.
Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.
A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Raising Money for Home-Start
Melbourn Springs have been raising money for Home-Start this year. This is a charity that supports families through Home-Visiting Service and Family Support Groups and has assisted over 80 families in the past year.
Melbourn Springs were over the moon to present the proceeds from their Christmas Fayre to Home-Start Fundraising Events Support Manager, Tracy Aggett. Donations for the Fayre came from the families of the residents and staff and provided tombola and raffle prizes. Proceeds from visiting Father Christmas were added to this and a whooping £475.90 was raised!
Tracy came to collect the donation which will go towards supporting more families with young children and she said, ‘Thank you so much to everyone involved with Melbourn Springs. We are so grateful for such an amazing donation!’ Tracy can be seen with Eileen, one of the residents and a lovely tray of money!
Activities Lead, Denise Ashby said ‘It has been a privilege to support such a worthy charity and we are looking forward to holding a coffee morning on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, to support them even further. Please look out for posters!’
We love a good sing along!!

Headphones and lei flowers on and the Silent Movement to Music with Sharon begins!
We had an hour of fun and laughter as we sang and moved to lots of our favourite songs! I think we must have sounded great as the onlookers were all smiling! We shook pom poms, waved streamers and popped bubbles! YMCA, New York New York, Sweet Caroline and Daisy, just to name a few! Arms raised, toes pointing and legs kicking!
Elvis is in the building!!
Elvis was in the building and charming all the ladies!
Singing familiar hits and some new ones, he had everyone enjoying every moment of the performance!
Christmas Tree Display!!
A short trip through the countryside and we were at Steeple Morden and the church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It was lovely to open the doors and feel the warmth, from the lovely people who chatted to us.
The Festival of Christmas Trees were all decorated with a theme and our residents eagerly looked at every tree!So many favourites! Colourful, cute, home made, vintage, recycled - everything you could think of!
Doreen's Birthday !
We love birthdays at Melbourn Springs! Today was no exception when we celebrated Doreen's special day! Family and friends made a surprise visit with cards, flowers and gifts! More celebrations on Sunday when Doreen will enjoy private dining with her family!
Happy birthday Doreen - our birthday girl!
Tap About Town !
We always love welcoming foot tapping Katie Lewis to our home! She always brings fun, laughter and energy with her and leaves us with smiles and aching arms after we have been clapping, swimming, hitch hiking and shaking our eggs! Not always in tune but we're having so much fun, we don't care!
We might have to buy Shankly his own pair of tap shoes! Our very own dancing carer!
Audrey loved the whole afternoon and couldn't wait to tell Katie what a wonderful time everyone had. 'Thank you for coming, it's always lovely to see you!' Another great afternoon Katie! You certainly brighten our lives!
