Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at The Manor Care Home

Little Visitors

We were pleased to welcome Bishops Hull First School for our annual Punch & Judy performance. Residents thoroughly enjoyed the show and took pleasure listening to the children’s laughter.

Sunflower Competition

Sunflower Competition

The Manor residents were challenged by some family members to see who could grow the tallest sunflower. They managed to grow a whopping 8ft, 8 inch tall sunflower, and proudly took the winning prize!

Charity Car Wash

Charity Car Wash

Residents and staff had fun day at our charity car wash on a very sunny Friday 23rd August, where they raised funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation. All the hard work built up an appetite for the barbecue held afterwards, which was enjoyed by all.

Punch & Judy

Punch & Judy

We were joined by Bishop’s Hull First School to thank them for doing such a brilliant job with their country dancing at our Classic Car Show back in the summer. The children and residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance by Dave Milton and are looking forward to seeing him again at the Christmas Fair.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

On 28th September, we hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning. Lots of people baked cakes for the occasion and brought in some homemade delight, which all sold very quickly.

Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey

Last week we were joined by Sharandy’s Birds of Prey. We were shown three birds: a barn owl, a long-eared owl and an Egyptian falcon. Many residents were allowed to hold and stroke the birds and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
