Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Caring for our Carers

At Lucerne House we take great pride in our outstanding team. Our dedicated staff are always going that extra mile and looking for ways to promote outstanding care, not only for our residents but, for eachother too.

Paula Allen, Senior Carer, decided to go that extra mile and treat the rest of the care team she works with. Paula asked Jade Gennard, an expert cake maker, to create some delicious cupcakes, which the whole team have enjoyed. One member of the team said this is so lovely and exactly why they enjoy working at Lucerne House.

We thank Paula for her wonderful gesture and all of team for keeping up their outstanding work.

Ice Cream Workshop

To finish off Mental Health Week, residents and staff at Lucerne House all took part in an ice cream sundae workshop where they could create their own ice cream sundae to enjoy.

We had all sorts of toppings and everyone has said how lovely and uplifting it was. We have many more exciting events to come so keep a look out on our website for more updates.

Cooking at Lucerne

We have been honing our cooking skills at Lucerne House this month. We got together to make Cornish pasties with guide and wisdom from one of our residents who used to live in Camborne, Cornwall. We had a great time with lots of laughter and they tasted delicious. Another resident said she had a great time and can’t wait for our next cooking group when we are going to make a toffee apple pie with vanilla ice cream and drizzled toffee sauce. We look forward to sharing more of our events and activities with you, so keep your eyes peeled on our website for more of Life at Lucerne House.

Keeping Active

We have been having great fun by keeping active at Lucerne House this month. Each week, we run our Movement for Health group, which includes cycling, walking, other movement exercises and lots of good banter. Our residents have all said how much they look forward to the sessions each week and that it has given them confidence and enabled them to meet new people and create friendships with others.

National Tea Day

We had a great time at Lucerne House on National Tea Day. Residents and staff got together to enjoy refreshments provided by the National Tea Day Company, have a social chat and enjoy each other’s company. John Bayliss, Senior General Manager, joined the group to help distribute refreshments. Thank you to the National Tea Company for their generosity and helping us to bring people together.

Sunny Days

We have been enjoying the sunny and warm weather recently at Lucerne House. Residents and staff got together to soak up the sun and enjoy an ice cream in our garden. With more hot and sunny weather due, we are all looking forward to more afternoons like these.
