Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kate Franks

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator.  I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.

After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.

Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

Amazing Lady Celebrates her 95th Birthday!

We have been celebrating a very special lady's 95th Birthday at Lawton Rise. Joan had a fabulous birthday and was able to celebrate in style with her two sons. Kirsty, one of our amazing carers, made Joan look spectacular on her birthday with a special birthday t shirt, crown, sash and wonderful decorations. Our very talented chef also made Joan a beautiful birthday cake, which was enjoyed by many!

You are never too old to celebrate your birthday and feel like a princess!

Getting ready for Halloween

We have been having a spooooky time creating some Halloween decorations. We have been doing arts and crafts to come up with new decoration ideas. We have had spooky plates and little ghosts! The residents have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in these crafts, but have even more so enjoyed seeing their crafts on display around the home. They have been able to show family and friends who may visit, their hard work! The team here at Lawton Rise are looking forward to celebrating Halloween.

We have also been enjoying playing games with the residents, especially Barry’s favourite (Domino’s). The residents really enjoyed these games and Barry enjoyed winning!

We hope everyone has a brilliant Halloween, from us at Lawton Rise.

Surprise for avid Stoke City Fan

Today was a very special day for our resident Wilfred.  Wilfred has been a staunch supporter of Stoke City Football Club since he was aged 15 and he never missed a match until he became unwell.  His room at Lawton Rise is full of Stoke City memorabilia and his face lights up every time the club is mentioned.

Although Wilfred is no longer able to attend the football matches, he still has a keen interest in the club and often talks about his love of football.  A member of staff at Lawton Rise wrote to Stoke City Football Club, telling them all about Wilfred and his passion for Stoke City.

What a fabulous surprise for Wilfred, Stoke City Football Club actually wrote to him, thanking him for all of his years of loyal support in a letter along with a Stoke City card signed by the Chairman and the Stoke players.

We would like to thank the club for such a kind and thoughtful gesture.  The letter and card now take pride of place in Wilfred’s room and the look of sheer joy on Wilfred’s face was priceless.

Herstory of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

National Ice Cream Day

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Residents join dogs welfare charity

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity.

Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
