Activities at Juniper House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hayley Brice

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I’m Hayley I joined Juniper House In 2023. I have around six years’ experience in health and social care, starting as a healthcare assistant and then as I increasingly noticed how important residents well-being is in their daily life, onto an activities co-ordinator. I have grown passionate about improving their quality of life on a daily basis and being a companion and smiling face for our residents. I love to encourage residents to continue with things which they have always done throughout their life such as gardening or arts and crafts and also trying new things like learning a new dance technique! I am passionate about ensuring residents keep in contact with the community, so we regularly board the mini bus and I drive them to somewhere which they will love.

My favourite activities are in the summer where I plan many events to take place outside in the sunshine. Any excuse to be outside, whether it’s out in our greenhouse or having a drink in the garden with live music. I think this is such a happy time for residents and their families.

Chinese New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year we transformed our coffee shop into a mini China Town. Our residents and staff tried some Chinese food whilst wearing China hats and waving pretty lace fans. Whilst listening to some traditional Chinese music and all red everything to bring some luck residents had a great time celebrating. Earlier on in the day we had a quiz all about the celebrations.

This year is the year of the dragon. So if you were born in 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, and the impending 2024 you are said to embody a magnetic blend of ambition, confidence, and charisma.

Valentine’s Day Party

All you need is love.... and chocolate and wine and cake! We had a wonderful time celebrating with staff, residents and staff at our valentines party on the 14th of February. A big thank you to David Mcfegan for playing wonderful music that got us all singing along to familiar classics. Everyone enjoyed wine, bucks fizz, cake, chocolates, strawberries and much more. The kitchen team made the refreshments very on theme for a day of love.

Pancake Day

Pancake making on pancake day was a wonderful time here at Juniper House. The smell of delicious traditional pancakes travelled through the home which everyone enjoyed. We opted for traditional lemon and sugar. What’s your favourite pancake topping? We had residents, staff and family members join in the fun and everyone shared their tips and tricks to get the best pancake!

Tipple and Topic and Book Club.

Our residents enjoyed a drink of their own choice, the favourite being Baileys, from the Tipple Trolley! We then had a donation of some books given to the home so everyone enjoyed choosing some books to take and read. Residents enjoyed chatting about what they have been enjoying reading and are looking forward to swapping the books when they have finished reading them.

Christmas Party Time

Thank you for all those who celebrated Christmas with us at our Christmas party! We enjoyed live piano music from Chris the Piano Man, lots of food, cake and of course Mulled Wine and Baileys to drink! There was lots to celebrate at our Christmas Party!

This included celebrating, Colin, our head of maintenance, for his 10 year service!

Jess, our hostess, for being nominated Employee of the Month!

Jinto, Saji and Nibine for their dedication creating the nativity scene and Hayley for ensuring the party was a great success! Well done everyone!

Christmas Day - Father Christmas Visits

On Christmas Day here at Juniper House, our residents (and Staff!) enjoyed meeting Father Christmas himself as he visited each individual residents. Father Christmas gifted each residents with an individual personalised present and of course posed for a picture. Residents were happy and pleasantly surprised to meet them man himself on Christmas morning. Staff could help but stop to say hello to.
