Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home
Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Life at Hilderstone Hall Care Home
Knit and Natter
We are overwhelmed to receive a very generous donation of colourful knitted blankets, twiddle muffs and teddy’s from Stone Library’s Knit and Natter Group leading us to host our very own knit and natter morning each week.
As a small group we admired their outstanding skills and we have each chosen something from our knitted collection to enjoy for ourselves or to gift to a loved one.
Beatrix Potter Afternoon Tea
The residents at Hilderstone Hall enjoyed a Beatrix Potter themed Afternoon Tea as they celebrated World Book Day. The homes was decorated with bunnies, bunting in keeping with the theme and residents tucked into a traditional afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, home-made cakes including mouth-watering carrot cupcakes and scones especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
They also listened to the famous tails of Beatrix Potter and a small life story of how It all began for Beatrix. The afternoon tea was followed by a viewing of the classic Beatrix tail Peter Rabbit. It was a wonderful afternoon!
St David's Day
St David’s Day at Hilderstone was celebrated with lots of daffodils being delivered to the home for our residents to enjoy the sea of yellow along with their daily papers. It has certainly create a colourful display throughout the home. During the day Residents have enjoyed a welsh themed quiz, cakes and also created some craft daffodils to decorate our display area.
Residents show inner Van Gogh's
Residents have shown their inner Van Gogh’s with a creative afternoon painting sunflowers to add a splash of colour throughout the home. Their masterpieces are now on a brightly coloured display of sunflowers and butterflies. The aim of these interactive sessions is to relax and find calm when painting and positive mindfulness.
Kneading the way for Real Bread Week
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Hilderstone Hall had a fantastic time celebrating Real Bread Week, surely one of the best weeks of the year!
Over the course of the week, overseen by the homes activities team and cooked by the hospitality team, staff and residents have kneaded, proven and baked their own artisan loaves which were served with the freshly prepared soup for lunch, it was a great source of fun and anticipation to see the outcome of their collective baking efforts.
General Manager, Linda Watson, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a Real Bread Week, the eyes of the staff lit up too! Who doesn’t love freshly baked bread? We have all had a great time trying out new recipes and adding different flavours and ingredients, we’ll be applying for Bake Off next!”
It's show time!
Here at Hilderstone Hall we like a good film and host a popular monthly film night. This month we screened the ‘Personal history of David Copperfield’ accompanied with movie treats and delicious hot dogs.
The activities team did a fantastic job as usherettes, issuing tickets, showing patrons to their seats, and offering concessions during the intermission. Of course, we could just pop a DVD in the player, but where’s the fun in that? It’s all about the experience.
