Care homes and elderly care from Barchester Healthcare

Meet our Activities Coordinator, Angeline Dench

I’ve worked for Gorseway since early 2014. I have worked in the care sector for a number of years where I gained my NVQ2 and 3 in health and social care, I also went to night school where I studied to be a counsellor. I keep chickens for their eggs and very much enjoy cooking, I love theme parks for the fast rides, basically the faster they go the better!

Activities at Gorseway

No day is ever the same here at Gorseway; we have a varied activities programme, ranging from social events like a cheese & wine evening, to celebrating national days such as patron saints days with arts & crafts and a brief history lesson. We make use of the home's minibus and enjoy local days out for shopping trips, picnics and just to admire our beautiful island coastline. Residents enjoy a range of entertainers who visit our home, from vocalists to theatre companies, and we have a good rapport with the local schools who visit often. We are always striving to meet the needs of the individual and try to tailor our activities to the interests and backgrounds of those we support, which ultimately helps with one-to-one sessions.

Burns Night

On Saturday 27th January, we celebrated Burns Night. Residents enjoyed entertainment by Miranda, who sang some traditional Scottish songs.

School Visit

On Thursday 14th December, we had a visit from our local school who came to perform Christmas carols for residents. The children stayed and interacted with everyone and residents were delighted with the company.

The Bells of St Mary

The Bells of St Mary brought some festive cheer to Gorseway and performed some traditional Christmas carols on hand bells.

Residents appeared to enjoy themselves and sang along with the Christmas carols.

Halloween Fun

Many residents opted out of Halloween, but some wanted to take part, so we kept it low key and made witches hats from ice cream cones. Everyone got covered in chocolate sauce and ate lots of treats.
