Activities at Forest Hill Care Home

We are a team of four activity organisers here at Forest Hill. We have a wide range of activities within the home including: musical entertainment, Arts & Crafts, Clubs for like minded people such as flower arranging and gardening, board games, baking (where the best bit is the eating afterwards!), and we celebrate special events throughout the year, such Easter, Mothers Day & Fathers Day and Christmas. We also have trips out on a regular basis using our own minibus, where we find out places of interest each person would like to visit. One of our more popular trips is to the local ice cream farm. We recently fulfilled one of our ladies dreams to visit the Chelsea Flower Show, something she had always wanted to do.

For our ladies and gentlemen who are nursed in bed, we have one to one times, which may be hand or foot massage or reading, & listening to music. We encourage families to get as involved as they can with activities and outings and have recently created a Terrace Cafe area, where visiting families can take their loved one for tea & biscuits and spend valuable time together.

Ice Cream for All!

Ice Cream for All!

We had our local ice cream van here recently because of the heat wave. Manfredi’s were very kind in making an extra stop here at Forest Hill to help keep residents, relatives and staff cool! We were all very grateful to them. They’ll be making a weekly stop to us whilst the good weather lasts!

Zoolab

Zoolab

Residents and staff got to meet all sorts of unusual creatures, including ‘Max’ the millipede and ‘Freckle’ the gecko lizard. We all had a lovely time, and many residents were quite brave!

Garden Party

We hosted our Forest Hill Garden Party recently; there was live music, cakes and sunshine, which were well-received by all. Residents and relatives really enjoyed the afternoon’s entertainment.

It was a pleasure to present ‘The Goldies’ with their cheque for £500 from Barchester's Charitable Foundation. They are a group that offers entertainment on Mondays to older people in the community, and, for some, this is their only opportunity to socialise. The couple who run ‘The Goldies’ was absolutely over the moon with the money and told us how it would really encourage people to attend their social events. We’ve offered to stay in touch and are hoping to do some joint ventures in the future!

Employee of the Month - July

Employee of the Month - July

Congratulations to Head Houskeeper, Alison Lowe, who was named as our Employee of the Month for July. She was nominated by 4 of her colleagues who all stated that she goes the extra mile for residents and nothing is too much trouble for her.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Celebrations

Happy birthday to resident, George! George is a keen artist and wanted a colourful cake for his birthday – which he certainly got! Staff and residents sang 'Happy Birthday', which really put a smile on his face.

Trip to Skegness

At the request of residents, we took a trip to Skegness. Although the weather wasn’t great, our spirits were high and we had a very enjoyable time thanks to ample portions of fish and chips and sea air! A special thank you to one of our Senior Support Workers, Emma Woolley, who assisted Activities Coordinator, Mags Parkes, with coordinating this trip.
