Activities at Fordmill Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache

Senior Activities Coordinator

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.

I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Life at Fordmill Care Home

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Happy Carers Week!

Happy Carers Week. We would like to take this great opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful carers at Fordmill.

We are proud of each and every one of our care team for the outstanding care that they provide to our residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this we are truly grateful.

Our carers received numerous donations and gifts from local organisations and businesses and lovely thank you cards from our community members, relatives and friends.

World Bee Day at Fordmill

What a brilliant day we all had at Fordmill marking World Bee Day and learning more about the importance of bees to food production and the environment.

Our residents got involved in different creative activities during the day, from planting bee-friendly plants in the garden and making bee houses to producing colourful paintings of bees.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a little honey tasting session and explored some healthy cooking recipes with honey.

It was a lovely day, which brought a lot of smiles and laughter into our home.

National Biscuit Day

It was a special day for all of us at Fordmill care home in Montrose as we celebrated National Biscuit Day.

We certainly had a fun-filled day of biscuit dunking and tasting, paired with a good old cup of tea. Our residents got involved in a biscuit tasting activity, themed quiz and chat about all things biscuits.

Some of the residents got the change to share a cuppa and biscuits with their family in the garden.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Floral creativity with Blooming Haus

Here at Fordmill we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass.

We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.

Ocean travels with V&A Dundee

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Fordmill were treated to a photographic tour and talk about the era of ocean travel by V&A Dundee Curator, Charlotte Hale.  The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.
