Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Fordmill Care Home
Harrogate Chocolate Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
Beat the Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
Bingo Bonanza
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Virtual Trip to Morocco
We continue our monthly virtual trips and this month we took our residents on a delightful trip to Morocco. Our residents are always looking forward to the day of the trip and many of them like Doris wake up early making sure she is ready when the time comes to attend the event. We do our best to create this virtual experience for our residents as some of them used to leave abroad or love to travel around the world, or never been anywhere else than Scotland but they would have loved to go. Every month we choose a country to explore based on our residents choice and we “visited” quite few places so far. Next trip is Zimbabwe as one of our residents lived there for more than 50 years and we can’t wait to see this beautiful country.
Love is in the air
We love spreading love around our home not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day. There is always a lovely friendly atmosphere in our home but today you could feel the love in the air. Everywhere you look there were happy smiley residents and staff. The home was lovely decorated with red hearts and red roses as the symbol of love and it looked absolutely beautiful. Our residents had a lovely afternoon tea with home baking cupcakes, sherry and plenty chocolate. There were family and friends joining our afternoon too and everyone had a great time.
