Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Katie Nicolson
Katie Nicolson is our Head of activities here at Drummond since August 2023 beforehand she worked as an activity assistant in the home for two years. Before coming to Drummond Katie has worked in many care roles over the years and studied Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret’s University and was awarded a Degree of Bachelor of science in Psychology and Sociology at the start of 2022. Katie loves being part of the Activity department here at Drummond Grange and bringing new and exciting opportunities and experiences to the residents. When she’s not at work Katie is a local Girl Guide leader and youth leader for her churches youth group.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Drummond Grange Care Home
Christmas Balloon Release
Drummond Grange organised a Christmas Balloon release to spread some Christmas cheer near and far. Residents wrote personalised messages on Christmas tags and attached them to the Christmas themed biodegradable balloons. The residents hope that their balloons will travel far and they might hear back from whoever finds them.
Local School Christmas Choir
Local Primary School Paradykes from Loanhead came to Drummond Grange to sing Christmas Carols for the residents. The children were aged 7/8 years old and had a great time singing for everyone, they even performed a very energetic 12 Days of Christmas with lots of actions.
The school said they cannot want to come back and see the residents again, in the new year Drummond Grange and Paradykes Primary are looking to develop a close relationship.
St Andrews Day
To celebrate St Andrews day here at Drummond Grange we had a concert with Margo Falconer who sang some traditional Scottish songs that the residents all sang along to and they enjoyed a dram or 2 from our in home bar!
We also had 3 Highland dancers Callie, Sophie and Elllie come and give a performance for the residents, the girls mum and dad both work within Drummond Grange and the girls were very happy to show off their dancing skills to the residents.
Remembrance Day at Drummond Grange
In the lead up to Remembrance Day residents at Drummond made their own poppies that they then hung on a special poppy tree situated in the reception area. Some residents also chose to write messages on the poppies. Everyone commented on how beautiful the tree was.
Blackpool Holiday
At Drummond Grange we aim to fulfill all wishes of our residents. We recently had 2 residents, Anya and Pauline, who went on a short holiday to Blackpool with 2 members of staff. The 2 ladies have become friends after Pauline came to live at the home earlier this year, both ladies had individually expressed a wish to go on a short break so staff asked if they would like to go together.
The ladies thought this was a great idea so the trip was planned. While there they visited the zoo, sea life centre and Madame Tussauds and also watched a few shows on the evenings.
The both really enjoyed themselves and so did the staff, and can’t wait to plan the next holiday!
Beach Wheelchairs Organisation
Residents from Drummond Grange recently visited the Beach Wheelchairs located at North Berwick beach. The Beach Wheelchairs is a charity that believes everyone should be able to enjoy the beach, they offer free wheelchairs and also have a hoist so that there are no barriers to everyone who uses them.
Four of our residents visited recently and absolutely loved the experience, the charity have electric wheelchairs so some of the residents were free to explore the beach by themselves.
Some of the residents said they hadn’t been on a beach in years and never thought they would be able to go on the sand again. Everyone cant wait to visit again!
