Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Brian Sandham

Activities Coordinator

My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities.   I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.

I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Life at Dovedale Court Care Home

Friday afternoon Parties

Our resident's love a good  party. A couple of Friday’s a month we do a party for the whole of Dovedale court where it gives everyone a chance to let their hair down. We get the music is on and guaranteed in no time at all the residents are off dancing, singing and toe tapping. You can see from their smiles that they are having the best time.

Global Tea Party

Sometimes food is just the way to our soul and this was certainly true when we served up a selection of homemade Scones, trifle , treats and sandwiches fit for a king.  This was all part of a global tea party in which many homes all did something similar on the same day.   When you look at their faces that just says it all.  A great afternoon had by all.

Snooker/pool Club

Snooker club is something brand new to us at Dovedale Court and is proving a massive hit.  It’s quite unbelievable how those that played before got straight back into the game having not played for some years.  The way they held the cue and concentrated on the win.  We’ve also taken some that hadn’t really played the game or not at all and have been teaching them how to play.  The smile on their faces when they even manage to hit the ball is priceless.   Not only do we have fun playing the game but we treat as a social and have a nice little drink and a chat.  We play at a local club “Ingol Labour Club”  they have be great with all their help down there and it’s super appreciated.

Singing and dancing

At Dovedale court our residents love nothing more than to sing and dance. This afternoon was extra special with singer Louis Devire who absolutely engaged with them from when they arrived in reception until when they went back. He went round before he started to great everyone individually and his passion for putting on a great show shone through.  The residents danced all afternoon  and left with beaming smiles. A great afternoon had by all.

Kitchen Club

Every week at Dovedale the residents get stuck into making something different. From sweat treats to savouries there isn’t anything they won’t try. This Kitchen club they decided to make a pizza snack. Armed with Lots of different ingredients they followed along and made some great Pizza. Not only could you see the fun they had making them but when the tea trolley came out in the afternoon they got to have Pizza along with their afternoon drink. They made a mountain of pizza’s enough to go round everyone that wanted one.

Game on

The football table was out and a few residents got right into the football spirit. The football anthems were playing in the background. There was a couple of fouls and definitely a bit of rule breaking. A couple of sly tackles but a good tournament had by all.
