Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

Hydration and nutrition week

Nutrition and Hydration Week has taken place annually since 2012. Its purpose is to bring people together to highlight and educate on the importance of eating and drinking well on maintaining health and wellbeing. We at Cherry Trees took part in the competition and had lots of fun with food and drink. From milkshakes Monday where we made breakfast fruit smoothies Talking Tea Tuesday, trying different flavours of tea hot and cold and even the queen of hearts was there delivering jam tarts. Wobbly Wednesday was our very own Carmen Maranda delivering fruit and jellies to our residents. Thirsty Thursday where we hosted a mocktail party and had music from Andre Riue. We ended our week with Fab fruity Friday where we had a cheese and wine party with plenty of fruit. Our hydration stations were set up with a variety of fruity waters and everyone had great fun exploring and experimenting with new foods and drinks.

Mad Hatters tea party

So we took a Tumble down the rabbit hole and discovered the Mad Hatter's Tea Party at cherry trees for world book day. Residents came with their best hats and staff dressed up as characters from the classic story book Alice in wonderland. Residents indulged in sweet treats and hot tea served in China cups. They played games such as pin the grin where residents were blindfolded and had to pin the Cheshire cats smile onto his body and the next game we played was build a house of cards and the best house won some prizes.

Residents had a magical afternoon, Marjorie said 'this is the funniest tea party I've ever attended' it really was good fun.

Farewell to Liz

Our lovely residents threw a lovely little tea party for our fabulous Liz who used to be on activities, Liz has decided to retire but it's definitely not the last we will see of her. The residents all had some lovely words to say and it got very emotional. We had lots of laughs and a few tears, far too much cake and a really good catch up. Liz was famous for her reminiscence groups and everyone loved attending. Joan said 'I honestly miss seeing Liz and hearing all her stories from the past, I'm still enjoying reminiscence but Liz was just exceptional at it.

It's not goodbye Liz it's simply see very soon!

Tom serenade’s the residents

On Valentine’s Day this year our amazing carer Tom put on the most spectacular performance for our residents. Tom was on shift for valentine’s day but wanted to give the residents a day to remember so he put down his gloves and picked up his mic, he sang to us all, It was a truly magical day. Marjorie said ‘ Tom is outstanding, he sings so beautifully and we have all had the best day’ The lounge was fit to burst and the sounds of Toms incredible voice filled the corridors. Our hairdresser Jane could hear from the front of the home in the salon and said she just had to join in, Jane said ‘it’s so emotional seeing how the residents are having the time of their lives’ We feel so incredibly proud to have team members like Tom.

Love is in the air at Cherry Trees

Cherry was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day this year. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by telling their love stories and sharing special moments from their past, creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and feeling the love all around. Our  Manager, Debbie, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and sharing our wonderful love stories. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!” Brenda, a resident at Cherry Trees said: “It has been really lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the day’s festivities. I really liked listening to the others love stories, it really did bring back fond memories of my husband.”
