Activities at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Life at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home
Sunflower Clothing Shopping Spree!
At Bryn Ivor Lodge we had the pleasure of welcoming Steve from the Sunflower Clothing Company.
Many of our residents love shopping and browsing through all the different selection of clothes, shoes and handbags. Lets be honest, you can never have enough handbags!
So we thought what a great idea it would be to bring the shops to our residents! And what a great afternoon they had. Steve brought with him a wide selection of items for our residents to view and purchase. Some of our lovely ladies had a great time and went on a bit of a shopping spree.
Royal Mint Project
Bryn Ivor Lodge has recently had the honour of participating in a project being run by the Royal Mint that involved reminiscing.
As a home we were provided with two memory boxes, one in English and one in Welsh. Our residents were able to take part in two beautiful reminiscing sessions where they explored various objects from the past, sparking fascinating discussions.
They Royal Mint has also featured our sessions in the Museums Federation Cymru magazine, where the concept of the ‘Memory Boxes’ was explained.
This experience was truly inspiring and a testament to the importance of cherishing our memories.
International Women's Day
International Women's Day is a remarkable occasion to celebrate women's history, their contributions to society, and their incredible achievements. Our celebration of International Women's Day with the Women's Institute was a beautiful example of the power of community, where amazing food, interesting stories, and lovely conversations were shared. One of our residents, Angela, even said that the afternoon made her feel young again. Let us continue to honour and empower women every day, and work tirelessly towards a world where gender equality is the norm.
Residents visit World famous museum
Today the residents of Bryn Ivor were privileged to visit The Royal Mint Museum in Llantrisant near Cardiff. We were fascinated to learn about the intricate process of coin-making and the incredible expertise behind it all. It was truly inspiring to witness the incredible work of this world-famous coin-manufacturing facility, and we left with a deep appreciation for their contributions to society. We had so much fun with one of our residents, the lovely Jacqueline! She made a funny joke, saying "Quick! Grab what you can and let's run!" We always enjoy taking our residents to new and exciting places and making the most of our time together. Whenever we can have some fun, we jump at the chance! Looking forward to the next opportunity to visit this awe-inspiring institution!
Visit from Scottish Bagpiper for Robert Burns’ celebrations
What a fantastic day it was at Bryn Ivor Lodge, celebrating Robert Burns in style! We kicked off the festivities with a visit from the amazing Welsh Wedding Bagpiper, Matthew Bartlett, who played a sensational selection of Scottish tunes on his bagpipes around the home. The residents were over the moon, clapping, dancing and singing their hearts out, while some even covered their ears in joyous disbelief!
As the afternoon rolled in, we continued our Scottish extravaganza with a lively blether, reading some of Robert Burns' most famous poems. We then put our knowledge to the test with a challenging Scottish quiz, and topped it all off with a wee whiskey tasting session. One of our residents, the lovely Margaret, was so thrilled that she exclaimed if we could see the steam coming out of her ears - although we couldn't, we could certainly feel the excitement in the air!
It was a day that will be remembered for a long time to come, filled with laughter, joy and a true celebration of Scottish culture and heritage.
Flower arrangement session
This afternoon we decided to shake off winter blues with lovely flower arrangement activity. Ladies loved the flowers and couldn’t believe how beautiful were some of the colours. Couple of gents joined us for tea and biscuits afterwards and we decided all bouquets were worth a first prize.
Arranging and gifting flowers can be a means for promoting well-being. It provides a soothing and calming experience and also promotes muscle memory, which can be useful for improving the body-mind connection.
The gentle act of selecting, cutting, and arranging blooms can help reduce stress and anxiety. What’s more it can give fingers, thumbs and hands a gentle “workout”, whilst the vibrant colours, textures, and fragrances of the flowers create a multisensory experience that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.
