Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the General Manager here at Bod Hyfryd - welcome to our webpage!
I qualified as an RGN in 2010 after studying at the University of Plymouth and have worked in a variety of adult care settings, where I found that my passion in life is working with older people, and particularly people living with dementia. I became a Registered Manager in 2014, after previously being a Head of Care and a Deputy Manager at other care homes.
As well having experience working with the elderly, including those with dementia, I have also discovered a great passion for helping to provide an excellent standard of care through the techniques I have acquired since I first began working in this sector back in 2012.
I have worked in the independent sector for over 25 years in senior management roles, which are both challenging, but highly rewarding. I am an advocate of a person-centred care approach, which involves tailoring a person's care to their interests, abilities, history and personality, with the involvement of family and loved ones in the care planning process. I have a wealth of clinical experience, including with palliative care and dementia care.
My name is Portia and I am the Administrator here at Bod Hyfryd. I have been employed at Barchester since 2014 and joined our sister home, Rhiwlas in 2018, before moving to Bod Hyfryd in 2019. I have various hobbies, including arts and photography, and a love for all animals.
I have worked in both the care sector and education sector over the two decades whilst raising 4 children.
I have been at Bod Hyfryd since 2017, starting as care assistant, and I am very excited to now be the Activities Coordinator.
My aim is to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to take part in person-centred activities and to establish good links and work closely with a variety of local groups within our community to expand our activities programme.
I've been working at Bod Hyfryd since October 2008. I started as a part-time Kitchen Assistant while studying Business Studies at the University of Chester. After I graduated, I realised that office work wasn't really for me and that I preferred working in the kitchen and the home.
I moved up to the position of Second Chef and, after a few years, was promoted to Head Chef. All my training has been in-house and I have learned a lot on the job. I obtained an NVQ Level 3 in Hospitality, Management and Leadership whilst working full time in 2017. It was challenging, but also very interesting and beneficial to me in my role.
The best part of my job is seeing residents enjoying their food at mealtimes and gaining their feedback. I love to bake and like to try out new ideas for cakes and pastries.
I have a building industry background; I worked as a bricklayer for 37 years before joining Bod Hyfryd in August 2008. The work here is interesting because every day there is something completely unexpected to do as well as the routine maintenance.
I’ve been working at Bod Hyfryd since 2016. I have worked within the care sector for many years in a number of different roles. I enjoy the sense of pride I feel when the home is presented at its best and knowing the residents are living within a clean and tidy environment.
