Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Ashlar House Care Home
Performing Pets Visit
We had our monthly visit from Performing Pets, who brought in 5 cute and fluffy bunnies! Our residents loved the bunnies’ company and we spoke of their habitats, different breeds and fluffiness! Our residents really enjoy Pet Therapy and their visits are always thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated!
Dog Competition
We hosted a Dog Competition within the home and wider community. We wanted to boost community engagement and create links between our home and the community. We had a lovely variety of entries! On Saturday 17th February, all of our residents, staff and visitors joined in to judge the winners for the different categories! There was 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for dogs and owners for 6 different categories: Prettiest Pooch, Handsomest Hounds, Most Obedient, Best Trick, Waggiest Tail and The Dog The Judges Most Want To Take Home. Winners were announced on our Facebook page and were invited into the home on Tuesday 20th February, which was also National Love Your Pet Day to meet some judges and be presented their prizes! It was a furry good day, enjoyed by all!
Valentine’s Day!
Love was most definitely in the air at Ashlar House as we celebrated a day dedicated to everything love! Our whole home joined in with the celebrations and we all felt and spread the love!
Some of our residents were joined by their loved ones for a lovely couples lunch. We were also graced with Elvis’s presence who spent the afternoon singing both beautiful love songs and sing-along classics!
Throughout our Valentine’s Day, so much love, laughter and joy was shared, as well as fond memories created!
Visit from Loughton Fire crew!
On Tuesday 6th February, we had a lovely visit from the crew at Loughton Fire Station. The team showed our residents the fire engine, showcased and explained all of their tools and equipment and gave demonstrations of using the hose, as well as lifesaving equipment in the event of a flood rescue! Our residents thoroughly enjoyed this event and speaking to some of the team who make up our brave emergency fire service! One resident expressed “it was great to be shown the equipment. I enjoyed watching them use the hose and seeing the power of it".
Singing with Alex Southgate
Our residents really enjoyed a singing session with Alex Southgate! Lots of singing, dancing, clapping and smiles all around! Our residents are very interactive with Alex who always has them sharing the microphone and up and dancing! Our residents really enjoy when Alex visits and always get involved with singing songs through the decades and showing off their jazz hands!
Performing Pets visit with Birds
We had our monthly visit from Performing Pets and they brought along some birdies for our residents to enjoy! The birds brought a lot of happiness and smiles to our residents and it’s something they thoroughly enjoyed and talk about often! Our residents are still enjoying the discussions about the birds and how calm and colourful they were! Performing pets is always a great experience for our residents who enjoy holding, petting, feeding and interacting with the variety of animals that visit us!
