Surrey man to cycle coastline in aid of dementia research
A Surrey man is hoping to raise £20,000 for dementia research by cycling around Britain, a leading dementia charity has announced.
Bar manager Phil Swanston plans to cycle along the entire coastline of mainland Britain, covering an average of 65 miles a day for three months, according to the Alzheimer's Society.
Dementia is a disease that is very close to Mr Swanston's heart, as his mother was diagnosed with the condition six years ago.
He said: "Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia.
"I am hoping that by raising money for them, more support can be provided as well aiding the Society in its search for a cure."
Mr Swanston is now appealing for sponsorship, as well as help with accommodation along the coast.
There are over 820,000 people in the UK currently living with dementia in the UK, with research into the condition remaining drastically underfunded, the Alzheimer's Research Trust has said.
